HT55 Professional Hammer Tacker
Typical Stapler
The HT55 caught my eye with the simple design and functional look. I hate staplers because they are inherently temperamental and flimsily constructed. Usually too many weak parts or complicated workings. This one has none of that, it is easy to breakdown and work on.
I needed a hammer-stapler to tack plastic (4 mil.) and roofing paper. Since I had been through a variety of hammer-staplers, mechanical staplers and electric staplers I expected problems from the onset.
Not surprised, it jammed after a few uses, but due to its simple design I was able to easily break it down and fix the problem. In my case the slot where the plunger slides through became tight (probably bent from a drop). I used a flat screwdriver to lightly pry the slot open at the end that it seemed to be binding at. I then added a drop of 3-in-1 oil and took it back to stapling. It is working fine, but as with most staplers I expect to fix a jam or repeat this process in the future.
I would recommend this to anyone that intends to use 1/4" staples on light material like tar-paper, plastic or materials like that.

Jammed first day
I barely tacked up two rolls of insulation and the HT55 jammed. I went to the downloadable manual to see about how to open it and clear the jam. The manual says to squeeze the operating end (the head) together and remove the pin in the handle to clean and clear jams. Well, when it is jammed, the head won't squeeze closed to let you remove the pin! Some unorthodox probing with a screw driver cleared the head. I was then able to "squeeze" it and remove the pin. I was using genuine Arrow H55 1/4" staples. It appears two of them bent or somehow got stuck in the middle of the sleeve preventing the spring rod from pushing the staples forward.

Hammer Tacker Jams
Just purchased the HT55 Hammer Tacker and went through about 50 staples and it jammed so bad I have to return it.
